Carol Pighin - Biography

About the Artist

Artist Carol Pighin

Landscape, still life, seascapes, abstracts, plein air painter.

Carol Pighin is an award-winning artist with a devoted and growing collector base across the US. After having lived in many places throughout her life, she ultimately found her artistic home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

At 19, Carol left her childhood home in California and flew to New York City where she found and chased her dream to be a flight attendant for the world-renowned airline TWA. From connecting flights to international excursions, her 20 years in the sky is the core of her inspiration. It was during this time of her life that she adopted a philosophy that became an artist’s practice: there is always a potential painting waiting to be discovered-if one only takes the time to truly observe the beauty.  After she retired from TWA she graduated from San Francisco State University.

In the beginning of her artistic journey, Carol explored portraiture, still life, figurative work, and abstract forms. As she built confidence and knowledge, her true passions emerged in painting both classic and abstract landscapes, seascapes, and low-country scenes that utilize light and atmosphere to evoke emotions and memories. Carol’s preferred medium is oil paint; she uses both brush and palette knife to bring depth and texture to her compositions. She enjoys refining her plein air skills on small panels or canvases while at local parks with artist friends and focuses on larger works in her at-home studio.

Carol exhibits her work regularly in the Charlotte area and has presented her own solo exhibition. Her paintings reflect a lifetime of seeing, exploring, and responding to the world with curiosity and heart.
